Prince Mihailo Monument
Prince Mihailo Monument is a monument of Prince Mihailo. It is located in the main Republic Square in Belgrade, Serbia, and was erected in 1882. It was the first public monument with representation of an equestrian figure of a ruler in Serbia. The author of the monument is Italian sculptor Enrico Pazzi. Reliefs on the monument were performed according to the drawings of architect Konstantin Jovanović. The monument was declared a Monument of Culture of Great Importance in 1979 and it is protected by Republic of Serbia.
Prince Mihailo (1823–1868) was Prince of Serbia from 1839 to 1842 and again from 1860 to 1868. His rule began after the death of his elder brother, and ruled until 1842, when he was ousted in a revolt led by Toma Vučić-Perišić.
Unveiling of the monument was followed by firing from a hundred and one cannon, and the ringing of bells from all churches of Belgrade, were heard during ceremonial unveiling of the monument and removing of the white cover. In front of the monument the Prince was honored and the anthem sung. Journalistic sources say it was a sublime moment of the ceremony. After that, laying of silver wreaths of glory started.
During the second half of the 19th century in Belgrade, starts to rise numbers of monuments, which represent numerous prominent personalities from the cultural and political life of Serbia. So it was decided that after several debates and contest erect a monument to Mihailo Obrenović, which would be placed at the former Theatre Square outside the National Theatre. On this occasion in 1873 an international competition was announced. Total of 17 works were received, mostly from foreign artists.
For the author was elected an Italian sculptor, the distinguished Florentine master Enrico Pazzi. The Italian sculptor, was born in Florence in 1819. He was a pupil of the famous sculptor Giovanni Sarti and Duperray. He was representative of the Italian verismo. His artistic direction was showing life as it is, with all its glory and despair. Pazzi was famous by his work on the monument, dedicated to the Italian writer Dante.
- Monument to Dante was erected in 1865. Monument is located in front of the Florentine church of Santa Croce. Proposal off Pazzi was innovation in a Serbian society of that time. Innovation was in displaying ruler on a horse. Work on the monument began in 1874 and continued in 1878 when Serbia gained independence, so the raising of this kind of monument dedicated to victory and liberation became live again. Equestrian statue in Belgrade was done in the spirit of classic Italian representations of ruler on a horse, having model in ancient art. It was the first monumental equestrian statue in Serbia.

Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is a national academy and the most prominent academic institution in Serbia, founded in 1841.
The Academy’s membership has included Josif Pančić, Jovan Cvijić, Stojan Novaković, Branislav Petronijević, Mihajlo Pupin, Nikola Tesla, Milutin Milanković, Mihailo Petrović-Alas, Bogdan Gavrilović, Ivo Andrić, Danilo Kiš and many other scientists, scholars and artists of Serbian and foreign origin.

Historical Museum of Serbia
The Historical Museum of Serbia, a museum of complex type, has the task of introducing people to national historical heritage and following on, protect that very heritage. The museum was founded in 1963.

Karađorđe’s Park
is a public park and an urban neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. While the park itself is located in Belgrade’s municipality of Vračar, majority of what is today considered the neighborhood of Karađorđev Park is since 1957 located in the municipality of Savski Venac (though historically still within the old, much larger neighborhood of Vračar).
In 1979 Karađorđev Park was added to Historic Landmarks of Great Importance list, and it is protected by Republic of Serbia.

Lido
Lido (is a non-residential urban neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade’s municipality of Zemun.
Lido is located on the northern tip of the Great War Island, on the Danube. It is actually a small, pointed sandy beach without permanent residents, which covers just small fragment of the island, as the entire Great War Island is protected by the law and urbanization is not allowed.
It was named after the Lido in Venice and developed as a wild beach, as an alternative to the much popular and official beach and park of Ada Ciganlija. Despite being very popular among the inhabitants of Zemun, it never managed to come close to Ada Ciganlija’s popularity.
- The beach is small, unattended and without almost any accommodations, except for several restaurants. It was accessible only by boats until the early 2000s when a pontoon bridge was laid every summer by the Yugoslav army. The organization of “Eho festival” on the island in early 2003 went disastrously because of the bad weather and the financial malversations of the organizers.

Manak’s House
Manak’s House is a building on the outskirts of the former Savamala. It is located on the corner of Kraljevića Marka and Gavrila Principa Streets in Belgrade, Serbia. It was declared a cultural monument by the Cultural Heritage Preservation Institute of Belgrade No. 277/2 on May 9, 1963.
In the early 19th century, Palilula and Savamala were the only suburbs inhabited predominantly by Serbs. The latter started from what is now Kraljevića Marka Street and encompassed the area around Zeleni venac, Bosanska (Gavrila Principa) and Abadžijska Streets (Narodnog fronts). During that time, Prince Miloš Obrenović received the Sava Embankment as a gift from the Turkish Pasha. Unsatisfied with its primitive settlements of single-story houses and dilapidated fishing huts, Miloš begun to transform the area in the hopes of turning Belgrade into a modern city.
- The house reflects the construction methods and dwelling culture of its time. It was built in bondruk, consisting of timber framing filled in with brickwork, in this case mud brick. It has a basement, ground floor, mezzanine and first floor. The layout of its rooms is the result of regulation and uneven terrain.

Museum of Aviation
The Museum of Aviation was founded in 1957 in Surčin, Belgrade. The museum is located adjacent to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The current facility, designed by architect Ivan Štraus, was opened to the public on May 21, 1989.
The museum owns over 200 aircraft previously operated by the Yugoslav Air Force, Serbian Air Force, and others, as well as aircraft previously flown by several civil airliners and private flying clubs. It also owns the only known surviving example of the Fiat G.50. The most valuable collections are housed in geodesic glass building, with additional aircraft displayed on the surrounding grounds.
- The museum also displays wreckage of a downed USAF F-117 Nighthawk and F-16 Fighting Falcon, both shot down during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. In addition, the collection consists of more than 130 aviation engines, more radars, rockets, various aeronautical equipment, over 20,000 reference books and technical documentation as well as more than 200,000 photographs.

Museum of Science and Technology
The main goal of the Museum of Science and Technology is the protection of the scientific and technological heritage of Serbia. Besides collecting, research and protection of technological cultural property, the purpose of the Museum is their presentation to the public in order to elevate scientific and technological culture, as well as to popularize science and its modern achievements.
- Unlike other museums in Serbia, the Museum of Science and Technology didn’t have any initial collection at the moment of the foundation in 1989. In other words, Museum’s fund was collected exclusively by its curators, mainly through gifts and donations. The gathering of objects started at the moment of Museum’s foundation with inventory number 1.

Zemun Fortress
The Zemun fortress is a fortification located on a hill in Zemun in Belgrade. Today, there are remains of square citadel, with four large circular towers in the corners. The length of each wall of the citadel is around 45 meters.
Zemun’s medieval walls were built on top of the old Celtic, and then Roman town of Taurunum. The medieval walls are believed to be built by the Byzantine Empire. The first written mentions of the fortress are from 9th century, and in late 11th century it suffered great damage during the First Crusade. During the first half of 12th century, the town is repeatedly mentioned in relation to Byzantine-Hungarian clashes. John Kinnamos mentions that in 1127 the Hungarians captured the Belgrade Fortress, stripping it’s materials and using stone to build the Zemun fortress.
- A few decades later, Manuel I Komnenos took Zemun, and reversed the process. He took stones off the Zemun walls, transported them to the other side of the riverbank, and refortified Belgrade. The Ottomans additionally destroy the town in 1397.
